Provided Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing theory and clinical to 4th level ADN students from a variety of Middle East and North African countries. Also taught Growth and Development to associate students. Provided courses on The Psychology of Medical Care and Client Education to Kuwaiti BSN nursing students. Served on academic scholarship and exam review committees; provided student advising and counseling; participated in research; presented lectures and facilitation in community, hospitals, clinics, and conferences.

August 2001 - June 2004 
Provided nursing instruction to Kuwaiti BSN students. Courses taught included Psychiatric Nursing theory and clinical; Community Health Nursing theory and clinical; Nutrition; Physical Assessment theory and practice; Nursing issues and Trends; Advanced Medical-Surgical clinical. Responsibilities included teaching, student advising, counseling, English tutoring, helping with nursing laboratory, and coordinating extracurricular student activities. Professional Research Experience

Baby Beep Pilot Study, University of Missouri, Columbia - worked closely with principle investigator in developing an emergency, 24-hour paging system for high stress pregnant women in a rural community; provided basic nursing, teaching, referrals, and aggressive stress management through telephone contact and home visits; maintained careful documentation and records of all interactions for research data; assisted with planning for the comprehensive stress management pager program on smoking cessation for pregnant women (1998-1999)

Asthma Interview and Data Collection, University of Missouri, Columbia - provided extensive data on four asthma subjects. Entered all data into Excel and SPSS computer programs and maintained organized files on each subject (1998-1999)

Nursing Intervention and Data Collection, Masters and Johnson's Sexual Trauma Unit, Missouri - assisted in maintaining confidential, detailed files on all inpatient psychiatric patients being treated for sexual and/or ritual abuse. Compiled extensive, detailed accounts of stressors, crises, and effectiveness of nursing interventions pertaining to these patients (1991-1992)

Controlled Experimental Research, Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Hospital, California - assisted in strict research protocol administering medication and placebos to voluntary research subjects on the Inpatient, Treatment, and Research Unit. Ongoing studies over many years included those assessing effectiveness and adversity of anti-psychotic medications Haloperidol and Chlorpromazine. Additional studies included government research with nursing staff administering THC (marijuana) capsules and/or placebos, recording the subjective and objective data related to such volunteers, and assuring the confidentiality, safety, and basic needs of all those involved (1978-1981)

Strategies for Strengthening Nursing Student Retention - literature review and ongoing observation to identify students at greatest risk for dropping out of nursing school; providing stress management and other strategic interventions to assist them with strengthening their ability to succeed; evaluating the effectiveness of those interventions.

Terrorism: A Community Mental Health Issue - literature review and informal date collection on the psychological threat to well-being that living in today's modern world poses to humanity; particular literature has been collected on studies pertaining to effects upon children; preliminary, informal subjective write-ups have been gathered as part of a confidential, nursing student assignment on the personal impact and post traumatic stress disorder symptoms resulting to self and family from the Iraqi Invasion.

Telling Our Nursing Success Stories - literature review on the power story to enhance our personal and collective image of nursing; preliminary qualitative research begun on collecting stories from nurses in Kuwait which demonstrate the vital role that nurses play in the lives of patients. It is hoped that these stories can be shared through publication and conference presentation as a way of improving the image of nursing in Kuwait and in the world.

August 1995 - June 1996 
Provided basic nursing care for patients in rural home settings. Services included thorough home-health nursing assessment, documentation, counseling for patients and family, medication education and management, monitoring diabetes and hypertension, dressing changes, safety instruction, and nutritional counseling.

North Central Missouri Mental Health, Missouri

March - December 1994 
Designed, coordinated and supervised geriatric psychiatric partial hospitalization services in nursing homes. Developed policy and procedure manual, all administrative forms, guidance and supervision for multidisciplinary staff for state accreditation. Also, participated in community day program for chronically mentally ill patients in the rural setting.

Managed the geriatric psychiatric partial hospitalization program at New Haven Nursing Home. Created and developed all multidisciplinary staff program content, offered educational classes each day on health, communication, relationships, medication compliance, complementary treatment modalities, and stress management. Facilitated individual, group, and family therapy with patients and members of the community.

Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Missouri
June - December 1992
Evening charge nurse on Masters and Johnson's pioneering Sexual Trauma Unit. Worked with patients with severe sexual and ritual abuse histories. Many of these patients were an immediate danger to themselves and others. Provided safety and grounding techniques to those with post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociative identity disorder, and other related disorders. Responsibilities included team leading, supervising staff, providing nursing care, leading individual and group therapy sessions, taking charge during all emergencies.
